National Philanthropy Day, proclaimed by President Ronald Regan in 1986, is the annual celebration of donors, volunteers, foundations, community leaders, corporations, and others engaged in philanthropy that sustain and transforms nonprofits around the globe.
The national day is also a grassroots movement that works to increase public interest and awareness of the importance of philanthropy, as well as knowledge on giving, volunteering, and engagement at the charitable level so that all people can practice effective philanthropy. Hosted in the U.S. by the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP), National Philanthropy Day spurs action by providing not only tips and guidance, but also opportunities to connect with causes and each other, inspiring people and creating new ideas for philanthropic engagement.
