After nearly a decade of serving girls from some of Tulsa’s most economically depressed communities, students at Tulsa Girls Art School are now graduating from high school and enrolling in institutions of higher education at record rates.

For the third consecutive year, 100% of TGAS seniors graduated from high school AND enrolled in post-secondary education in 2018 – many as the first member of their family to reach either milestone. TGAS now has graduates enrolled at the Art Institute of Chicagothe Savannah College of Art and DesignTulsa Community College, Kansas City Art InstitutePrairie View A&MOklahoma State University- Tulsa, and Northeastern State University.

“Art is the vehicle,” said TGAS CEO Adrienne Duffy, “but we’re ultimately here to help these girls overcome barriers and discover their purpose, power, and possibility.”

In 2018, the after-school program served more than 7,000 members of the community through art enrichment performances, programs, and outreach. The 60 girls enrolled in the program are provided unparalleled art instruction from third through twelfth grades, representing a 10-year commitment to each girl’s individual growth, completely free of charge.

“Growth presents itself in many different ways,” said Duffy. “Over time, we have the privilege of seeing our students grow artistically, academically, and socially. We help these girls grow into creative, resilient, and self-determined women, and we are so proud of our graduates.”
